Leukapheresis
Gentle and efficient collection of leukocytes from the peripheral blood — performed by our experienced team in Vienna.
The Procedure
What is Leukapheresis?
Leukapheresis is a specialized procedure for collecting white blood cells (leukocytes) from the peripheral blood of a donor or patient.
During the procedure, the donor's blood is passed through an apheresis system that selectively separates the desired cells. The remaining blood components are returned to the donor. The procedure typically takes 3 to 5 hours and is carried out by our qualified medical staff.
The collected cells serve as the starting material for the production of various cell products — from PBMCs and monocytes to stem cell preparations for cell therapy.
Standard and mobilized apheresis
Standard apheresis
In standard apheresis, mononuclear cells are collected directly from the circulating blood — without prior medication. This gentle procedure delivers high-purity lymphocytes for immunotherapies, research, and diagnostic applications.
Mobilized apheresis
In mobilized apheresis, hematopoietic stem cells are first "mobilized" into the peripheral blood using growth factors and then collected. This makes it possible to obtain large quantities of cells for stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapies.
