Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most important questions about our services, products and processes.
What is leukapheresis?
Apheresis is a medical procedure in which blood is continuously drawn from a donor via a venous cannula, separated into its components by a machine within a closed tubing system, and the unneeded components are immediately returned to the donor. This allows white blood cells to be collected in large quantities and high purity with minimal burden on the donor. The procedure is clinically established, takes approximately three hours depending on the target product, and is considered safe and well tolerated.
What cell products does CytoCare offer?

Additional consulting services are available in the areas of regulatory affairs, technology, training, and QM/QC.
How do I order cell products from CytoCare?

How are the cell products shipped?

How large is the donor pool?
CytoCare has a database of more than 1,100 healthy donors, all pre-screened for WBC count and infectious disease markers (IDMs). Capacity is up to 30 leukapaks and 20 patient collections per week.
Can cell products be ordered to individual specifications?
Yes, CytoCare offers customer-specific timing and product specifications as well as tailored protocols. Options include split products, cryo products, and donor selection based on specific donor characteristics.
How long are cryopreserved cell products stable?
Shelf life depends on the desired cell population. Neutrophils have the shortest stability, T cells should be processed within 48 hours at the latest, and hematopoietic stem cells remain viable somewhat longer. These are approximate guidelines — please feel free to contact us for individual advice.
